Derek Mitchell

Project Manager

Derek combines an MBA from the Edinburgh Business School with over 20 years of commercial and management experience. Derek is a retired Director of the Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association having helped establish it as one of the largest hydrogen and fuel cell trade associations in Europe, and was also a founding Director and project manager for the Hydrogen Office. Launched in 2011, the Hydrogen Office was one of the first projects in the UK to use hydrogen to help balance wind energy.

Derek has also project managed the development and delivery of large solar PV projects, and has worked closely with the UK Government sponsored Micro-Certification Scheme (MCS), having project managed the transfer the MCS scheme and £7m of assets from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to MCS Charitable Foundation in 2018.

Derek is passionate about doing what he can to support the transition to a low carbon economy. At a personal level he converted his home to run off a combined solar and wood based heating and hot water system 13 years ago.
